We heat to 82 degrees to maintain the pool heat within this range. Any requests for a higher temperature will result in higher pool heating fees, in accordance with the propane costs to heat such a large body of water.

  • No Smoking

Cloud Canyon is a non-smoking house. Smoking is only allowed outdoors and more than 25 feet from the house and decks with all windows and doors to the home closed. Out of respect for the desert, you must remove all cigarette butts from the property to avoid additional cleaning fees. Any sign of smoking will result in additional cleaning fees starting at $100.

  • Extra Guests

During your stay, no more than the contracted number of people may be on the property. If you wish to invite others over, you must first write to us for permission. This helps us manage expectations for our housekeepers and the impact on the house, and comply with county-wide laws.

Violation of this rule results in at least a $200 fine per extra guest per night and in some cases may result in an immediate eviction from the property forfeiture of your security deposit.

  • Noise

Sound travels very far in the desert. Please be considerate of the neighbors and keep music and voices at a respectful volume at all times. All guests must comply with the county-wide noise ordinance of no amplified music or loud noises outdoors after 10 p.m.

  • Photo Shoots

Our property is a beautiful place to shoot photos, and we welcome you to tag us on Instagram (@CloudCanyonResort). Professional shoots, however, must be cleared with us in advance of your stay. If you are in doubt, inquire first.

  • Sound System

The soundbars are Bluetooth operated. Use the provided remote to turn on. Connect via Bluetooth and play music from your favorite music provider.

  • Dark Skies at Night

Please do not leave exterior lights on once you have gone to bed. Light pollution is taken seriously in the desert. Please don’t take away from others’ star gazing experiences.

  • Septic Tank

We are on a septic system - all food particles and coffee grounds need to be thrown in the trash. Only water can go down the drain, and no artificial materials (including more than a handful of toilet paper) in the toilets. Wipes are for trash only. The septic system doesn’t have issues when these rules are followed. Any cost incurred by a visit from the plumber for a septic related issue is to be paid by the guest.

  • Water Tank

We’re off-grid here in the desert. Since water flows into our brand new water heater from the local water tank, keep your showers short and sweet and you won’t run out of hot water.

  • Wildlife Safety

Joshua Tree is wilderness land. This means there are numerous animals with whom we share space. From coyotes to snakes to adorable rabbits, life is everywhere in the desert. And just like the prickly cacti that populate the area, some of these animals can be dangerous. Treat nature with respect. Do not leave food outside, and do not leave food out overnight indoors. Do not allow children to explore unattended. You are solely responsible for your safety and the safety of all others on the property during your stay.

  • Liability

The property owner and manager do not assume any liability for loss, damage, or injury to persons or their personal property. Neither does the owner accept any liability for any inconveniences, damage, loss, or injury arising from any temporary defects or stoppage in supply of water, gas, WiFi, electricity, or plumbing, as well as due to weather conditions, natural disasters, or other reasons beyond its control. Please report any maintenance needs for the premises, and we will respond as quickly as possible.

  • Obey the Law

Guests and visitors shall obey all laws of the State of California, as well as local laws, at all times while they are on the premises. Failure to abide by the laws of California or the above rules may cause guests to be asked to vacate the premises and forfeit all rents and security/damage deposits.
